Kia ora, Hello, Talofa Lava, Malo e lelei, Ni hao, Ahn nyung, Wei ho ma, Namaste, Hola, Kee haal hai, Vannakkam, Jomreep sua, Sawat dee, Privet, Kumusta, Nabad!
Wow, what an incredible show! We are super proud of our EHS tamariki for shining on stage with their performance of Olympics Through Time. The show was a huge hit, and I’m sure wonderful photos have been flooding in on Seesaw, capturing all the creativity and fun! A huge thank you to our incredible Arts Leaders, Hannah Ward and Pearl Moon, for their vision and dedication in bringing the entire production together. Their hard work truly made the show come to life! We are very lucky to have their expertise in the Performing Arts at EHS. A big shout-out to our amazing student Arts Leaders, Lucy Chatfield, Aadhaya Ramtake and Rian Balsara, whose humour and talent truly shone through in making the show such a wonderful success. A special shout-out to our amazing teaching staff for all the extra mahi, hours, and creativity they put into their class performances. Teachers juggle so many skills, and show performances can push a few out of their comfort zones. Didn't they all do an incredible job! And to our tamariki, many of whom were well past their bedtimes on show night, thank you for lighting up the stage and shining like stars. I’m sure the school show was packed with fun memories they will treasure for years to come. Be sure to check out our photos and write-up in this newsletter!
EHS kids singing their hearts out in the finale - "Standing in the Hall of Fame"
It’s been all systems go at Eastern Hutt as we wrap up the term! The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of amazing events - EHS never sleeps! We raised an awesome $775 in support of Wellington Free Ambulance on Onesie Day, and our Year 0 - 3s even managed to squeeze in a "Onesie Runsie" during a brief break in some pretty nasty weather. The puddles just added to the fun along with Miss Harris, Miss Patterson and Mrs Hrstich who bravely rocked their PJs to run with the kids!
We love supporting Wellington Free Ambulance on Onesie Day
Braving the weather for our Onesie Runsie
Roald Dahl Day was a highlight for our Middles Team, with Willy Wonkas, Golden Tickets, Fantastic Foxes, and even a few Trunchbulls making an appearance!

Our Senior Kapa Haka ākonga had a blast at Brewtown for the Mahuru Kapa Haka Festival - what a fantastic way to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

If you get a chance, pop in and check out the incredible art lining our corridors. We are so thankful to Sheryl Hudson, Chelsey Egan, Greta Purcell, and our amazing teachers for the vibrant, colourful pieces that come out of the classrooms and brighten our walls. Artwork at EHS is something we all feel very proud of, and it’s always great to see the tamariki stopping to admire it too!
As we head into Term 4, we can’t wait to welcome back our Principal, Julie Henderson. Ann Gwilliam and I have both loved our co-acting principalship and have appreciated the opportunity to work together and share in all the exciting moments this term has brought. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Jacqui Graham for stepping in as Acting Deputy Principal - she has done an amazing job! I’m sure the C1 students will be excited to have Mrs Graham back in the classroom.
We’re also excited to kick off our 6th and final New Entrant class for 2024 at the beginning of Term 4. Kaiako, Nikita Chhagen and Tarryn Harrison can’t wait to welcome our newest little EHS learners in C2. Jules Hunt will also be welcoming the last cohort of New Entrants for E4.
With just one more day of the term to go, the holidays are going to be a well-deserved break for everyone. Wishing all our EHS whānau safe and happy holidays! Here’s to longer days and hopefully some warmer, sunnier Term 4 weather ahead.
Ngā mihi nui Hayley Walshe Acting Principal
The EHS Show - Olympics Through Time
The EHS show 'Olympics Through Time' was a spectacular event of dance, drama, music colour, fun and laughter as the audience was taken on an olympic journey through the ages. The celebration of talent, diversity, that is EHS was reflected in each classes item. Check out some of these amazing photos!
Here's are some thoughts from some of our tamariki about their show experience:
I liked dancing on the stage with my friends. I was a little bit nervous but I was brave. Gia C3
I liked dancing and shaking the yellow pompoms. I liked dancing on the stage. Eva C3.
Before I went on the stage I was feeling very excited. I wasn't nervous at all. My favourite part was the start part because we looked so cool and the moves were really cool. I felt like a rock star! I felt sad at the end because we didn't get to do it anymore. I still want to keep practicing the show even though it's all done. Scarlett B3
I liked the lights that were on me. They were super bright and I felt like I was a star on stage. My Mum and Dad were taking photos of me. I saw them watching me and it was a really big crowd. The crowd was like a thousand people. Jasmine B3
I was really proud that I managed to walk down the aisle with my muscles. My favourite part was lining up on the stage and making some poses! Masooma A2
One thing I am proud of is being in the running group. My favourite part was making the little groups perfect because we kept making little changes along the way. It was fun! Callum A2
I worked very hard to learn all the steps and moves. I tried to do the very best I could do. When I got up on the stage I just let it all out and didn't have a care in the world. I wish we could have EHS shows every single year with no exceptions! Bethany A8.

Mahuru Kapa Haka Festival
The EHS Kapa Haka rōpū was lucky enough to be invited to the inaugural Mahuru Kapa Haka Festival at Brewtown last Thursday. It was a wonderful opportunity to share kapa haka with other schools in our wider region. The EHS kapa haka rōpū did us all proud and presented a polished performance of waiata, poi and haka. We were so grateful to our talented tutor, Matua Piko, who supported us in his usual calm manner. All schools were presented with a beautiful trophy which our kapa haka leaders accepted on behalf of the rōpū. A big thank you to all kaiako and whānau who supported us last Thursday.

Roald Dahl Day - A Dahlicious Day
On 12 September the Middles had a truly Dahlicious day!
To celebrate the wonderful storytelling of Roald Dahl, tamariki in Years 3 and 4 came to school dressed as their favourite book character. Classrooms soon became filled with Champions of the World, Willy Wonkas, Matildas, Fantastic foxes, Big Friendly Giants and all types of fabulous characters from Roald Dahl’s world.
Children then had a day of squiffling fun as they completed a variety of gloriumptious activities. There were science experiments, art and craft fun, and delicious treats to make. Some children even managed to gain a Golden Ticket during the day.
In our assembly we had a Snozzcumber tossing competition and were amazed when the famous Mr Willy Wonka made an appearance. What a treat that was!
