Kia ora, Hello, Talofa Lava, Malo e lelei, Ni hao, Ahn nyung, Wei ho ma, Namaste, Hola, Kee haal hai, Vannakkam, Jomreep sua, Sawat dee, Privet, Kumusta, Nabad!
We’re wrapping up August this week having had some seriously soggy weather! Here’s hoping the change in seasons brings some warmer, sunnier, spring vibes.
This week, we've welcomed our brand new 5 year olds into our EHS whānau! We're excited to have Jules Hunt join us as well, and she's thrilled to help these little newbies start their big school adventure in E4. They’re now officially part of the EHS crew, and we can’t wait to watch them grow into confident big kids!
Our newbies in E4
A huge shout-out to our Home and School team, who are working hard on the Mathsathon fundraiser. Every dollar raised will go toward resources for our tamariki, so thanks for getting behind this fundraiser. We’re super thankful for our Home & School team and the time and energy they give to keep our school well-supported. And stay tuned - more exciting events are on the way, so keep an eye out!
As we move through the term, it’s important to remember the value of being on time and attending school regularly. Every day counts in keeping our tamariki on track and making sure they get the most out of their learning. The Ministry defines regular attendance as being present at least 90% of the time during the school term, which means missing no more than 5 days in a typical 10-week term. Please check out our special attendance newsletter that was emailed for more information on attendance, the impact of absences, and how we compare to the Government's targets.
I’m sure the tamariki will continue to shine as we push through the term with positivity and excitement. Let’s look forward to the spring sunshine and the fun of our upcoming school show!
Kia pai te wiki koutou - have a great week everyone!

NanoGirl Show Amazes Middles with Science Fun
Middles tamariki were blown away last week with some fiery science fun!
The Middles had a whizzpopping time at the NanoGirl Science Show! They learned a whole lot about Chemistry and discovered some cool things, like how flour can burn and how a handkerchief can catch on fire and not even get burnt. They learned about liquids, solids, and gases, and even saw a liquid turn into a solid - it tasted great! They also got to watch some chemical reactions when acids and bases were mixed - it was explosive! Your activity-related donation supports fantastic extracurricular activities like this one.
Here's what the tamariki had to say:
“I loved when she made the little cannister explode and hit the ceiling,” William.
“I liked it when she used the cabbage water and different chemicals to make different colours – it was amazing,’” Siya.
“I learned that Science is really fun but can be dangerous at the same time!” Muhtasim.
B5 Win Gold
B5 sent a good luck message to the Olympic Team. We sung them the school song and said karawhuia and kia kaha! Our message was so awesome we won Goldie, the official mascot for the NZ team. Karawhuia B5!
Junior School - SECC Foundation
THE SECC Foundation (Sport, Education, Community and Cultural Education Foundation)and Air Rescue and Community Services have provided the EHS junior team with a bag of awesome sports equipment. Their goal is to better equip schools to allow children to easily engage with sporting activities to improve their health and wellbeing, while recognising value in their own culture. The EHS Junior Teachers and tamariki would like to say a huge thank you for this donation. Thank you to our school Sports Co-ordinator (Julie Cameron) for organising this for us! We can’t wait to get active with this new sports gear during lunchtimes and our classroom PE sessions!

Sports
Flippaball
Flippaball is a modified version of Water Polo and allows Year 5 and 6 students the opportunity to participate in a new sport. We have a Flippaball team, entered in the Hutt Valley Primary School’s Waterpolo Competition. Together they are demonstrating plenty of commitment and enthusiasm turning up every Wednesday night to compete. The students are developing in their skill level, strategic play and general sense of the game. Catching and passing the ball in one hand with a defender on you in water is not an easy feat, especially if the water is over your head!
Miniball
We have four teams in these after school leagues, held on a Monday and a Thursday evening. It is great to see our students enjoying their sport and developing in skills on and off the basketball court. Learning what it is like to be part of a team.
Badminton
Our two badminton teams are enjoying their league this term and have developed their skill set and knowledge of the game immensely.
