As we near the end of term, it's still very important to keep on top of everything so your children are organised for the day with what they need. We know there is a lot going on with swimming, EOTC, gala, patrol training, folk dancing, celebration assemblies etc

It is great to see how excited the tamariki are as I walk through a class and they are very proud of what they are making or have grown for their class stall. The Home and School Gala Committee are so well organised and are continuing to do an awesome job of getting through the final tasks to be set for Gala Day next Thursday 4th December. Thank you to all those who have been working behind the scenes on various jobs and to those who have signed up to volunteer on the night.

There is a mountain of lost property clothing, lunchboxes, drink bottles etc in our Lost Property Bins. Please have a look over the next couple of weeks and whatever is remaining will be put out on Gala Night by the Library. If not claimed, it will go to a charity.

We have been having beautiful sunny days and we need you to make sure your child has a named sunhat. Please also sunblock your children before they come to school and they can top up later with the class supply.  Our sunshades are under repair.

Please be mindful of respecting the privacy of other children and their whãnau when taking photographs and especially if videoing. No parent should be videoing other students.

Thank you to Mrs Thom's Mallet Band who performed today in the E Block Quad with a lunchtime audience who enjoyed the show. It made us feel like Christmas is coming! Look out for them at the EHS Gala next week on Thursday.

We are all in this together

On Tuesday the 17 of November, seven of the Men’s Wellington Phoenix players visited our kura.

The Phoenix players were Josh Oluwayemi, Ifeanyi Eze, Paulo retre, Anaru Cassidy, Luke Supyk, Dan Edwards and Nixie the Phoenix mascot! 

Tamariki had the opportunity in the Q&A to ask questions about their recent games, how many goals they’ve scored, what it takes to become a professional footballer and more!

After, we went outside for relay races with the players. They each coached a team and our EHS tamariki got to show of their football skills.

“It was cool because we got signatures and we did some relays with the players. At the end we took a big group photo.”

“I think it was a great opportunity for the school to ask some of the players questions, and because we got to do the fun activities.

The Year 3 and 4 classes visited the Island Bay Marine Education Centre.  We got to hold lots of cool creatures and search among the rock pools.  Everyone had to be gentle with the animals so they didn’t get hurt. Some people were a bit nervous to hold the creatures but gave it a go anyway.  The animals we touched were sea cucumbers, anemones, starfish, kina and brittle stars.  We learnt that Island Bay is a marine reserve so we weren’t allowed to take anything away from the rock pools. We also visited Shorland Park for a scavenger hunt and play on the playground.  It was such a fun and exciting day.

Some of the Junior classes have enjoyed trips to the Lower Hutt Library. We listened to some lovely stories and saw their brand new puppets. We really loved looking at their special pop up book collection.

Thanks to the generous donations from whānau at our Term 3 Arts Trail, we have been able to create a special space in honour of Miss Werry. A beautiful dog-themed bird bath now sits at the heart of the garden – something Miss Werry would have truly loved. Surrounding it are the colourful painted rocks made by students in her memory, each one adding its own touch of joy. Johanna also painted a beautiful quote from one of Miss Werry's favourite artists. A wonderful team of Teachers, Learning Assistants and Students came together to weed, sweep and tidy the area, creating a peaceful space that serves as both a sheltered sanctuary for birds and a spot for students to enjoy as they line up for the pool or play near the junior and middle playgrounds – the ages Miss Werry taught.

Thank you to everyone who contributed. We hope this simple, natural and colourful garden helps our community feel Miss Werry’s spirit honoured and remembered.

After School Pick Up 

 There are a number of students who are not being picked up until well after 3.30pm. There is no one supervising these students.  It is very important that you collect your child by 3.15pm as per Eastern Hutt School policy. 

If your child has borrowed some of the school’s clothes, please can they be washed and returned.  We have no small clothes if any students need to be changed.

Enrolments – Calling all near 5 year olds! 

If you are living in our zone and have a child turning 5 this year or in 2025, please contact the school office for an enrolment pack if you have not already done so. If you have family or friends living in zone who also have a child turning 5 please let them know to contact the school office on 566 0167 as soon as possible.
There will also maybe places for children turning 5 who live out of zone. Our next ballot date is in March 2025.

Congratulations to Phoebe, Elijah and Stian on their remarkable success at the Regional Championship event in Masterton on Tuesday 25th November.  Our athletes achieved personal bests, celebrating their sportsmanship and determination in earning the placings below in a highly competitive field.

I  would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families who have supported our tamariki in sport this year.  To our coaches and managers we couldn’t have done it without you, we are forever grateful each term, when we receive such a positive response to our calls for help as are our children.  

Thank you to everyone who continue to turn up each week to support and encourage from the sidelines.  We look forward to your continued support in 2026.  To all our Year 6 students, we wish you the very best with the next stage of your sporting journey.
