The Student Council has the important role of making their school a better place by representing the voice of all students at Eastern Hutt school. The students on the Council are provided with leadership opportunities in school activities.
EHS Student Council is made up of 16 students - 2 representatives from each of the Senior classes and have been nominated and chosen by their peers. There is a boy and a girl from each of these classes. The criteria for nomination required that the student is: a good listener, able to communicate effectively, reliable, hard working, showing initiative and displays leadership qualities. Each of the councillors is responsible for a Middles class with whom they are directly involved, to enable an efficient school communication process. Junior classes may call on the council members to help facilitate any of their activities.
The Student Council aims to meet fortnightly and is the advocate on behalf of all students for putting their views and opinions forward. Councillors will report back to the classes on any decisions that are made. They are responsible for promoting and facilitating upcoming events.
In between Student Council meetings, classes will hold their own meetings where they talk about Student Council news and ideas that they would like the Student Council to consider that benefits all at Eastern Hutt School.
