Gifted & Talented (GATE)

Teachers identify students who excel and demonstrate characteristics of the gifted student. Programmes can generally be provided for within the classroom through teachers differentiating the programme and providing extension within the curriculum area.

A few exceptional students may engage in an individual programme with the support of Correspondence School, or working at another level of the school eg. during Mathematics time.

It is also our policy to provide like-minded and like-able students to work and learn alongside each other. In terms 2 and 3, a range of extension programmes are run to challenge students in their identified area.

Some of the programmes are listed below and may only be available to some year levels:
Otago Maths Problem Solving, Writers’ Club, Science Club, Thinkers’ Club, Tournament of the Minds

Below are some of the optional programmes available for students with special talents:
Dancesplash Dance, Artsplash, Choir (Senior and Middle), Big Band, Kapa Haka, Nga Tamatoa, Science and Maths Badges. The school has a bi-annual school production.

There is also a wide range of sporting opportunities for students of all levels. For the high achieving athlete, there is many opportunities to shine at primary level.
