What you can do as parents
Fire
- Fire drills and evacuations are practised each term.
- Students are evacuated to the senior field.
- Students are not released until the instruction has been given by the Principal.
- Students are released to an adult named on the list and this is recorded.
Earthquake
- Students practise the position recommended by the Civil Defence ‘Drop, cover, hold’
- When the shaking has stopped, teachers and students evacuate to the senior field
- Teachers have Grab Bags containing a list of the students in the class with parents names, emergency contacts, and any health issues. The office also has a master set.
- Prepared name tags are given to the students
- Students are not released until the instruction has been given by the Principal.
- Students are released to an adult named on the list and this is recorded.
Food and Water
- Emergency supplies of food and water are held at the school.
- A water tank has been installed at the school at the far end of the tennis courts.
Communication
- It is most likely that phone networks will be overloaded.
- Automated txt message will be sent if possible.
- Status updates will be posted on Facebook, Twitter and by text message eg. ‘Students evacuated to senior field. All safe. Can collect your child.’
What you can do as parents
- Ensure your emergency contacts are up to date and notify the school office when there is a change as these are the adults your child will be released to.
- Have a family emergency plan.
- Talk to your child at home about what the school and the adults will do to keep them safe.
