Emergencies

These are our emergency procedures.

Fire
  • Fire drills and evacuations are practised each term.
  • Students are evacuated to the senior field.
  • Students are not released until the instruction has been given by the Principal.
  • Students are released to an adult named on the list and this is recorded.

Earthquake

  • Students practise the position recommended by the Civil Defence ‘Drop, cover, hold’
  • When the shaking has stopped, teachers and students evacuate to the senior field
  • Teachers have Grab Bags containing a list of the students in the class with parents names, emergency contacts, and any health issues. The office also has a master set.
  • Prepared name tags are given to the students
  • Students are not released until the instruction has been given by the Principal.
  • Students are released to an adult named on the list and this is recorded.

Food and Water

  • Emergency supplies of food and water are held at the school.
  • A water tank has been installed at the school at the far end of the tennis courts.

Communication

  • It is most likely that phone networks will be overloaded.
  • Automated txt message will be sent if possible.
  • Status updates will be posted on Facebook,  Twitter and by text message eg. ‘Students evacuated to senior field. All safe. Can collect your child.’

What you can do as parents

  1. Ensure your emergency contacts are up to date and notify the school office when there is a change as these are the adults your child will be released to.
  2. Have a family emergency plan.
  3. Talk to your child at home about what the school and the adults will do to keep them safe.
